Exercise Buddies

As an Exercise Buddy you will play a key role in helping individuals take their first steps to living a more active lifestyle. We have roles available in Broxbourne and Watford.

Role Description

Depending on the time you can commit to being an Exercise Buddy, the role will be shaped around you. Your role may include any of the following activities:

  • Befriending and motivating inactive people
  • Encouraging people to try a variety of activities in both group and individual settings
  • ‘Meeting and greeting’ at physical activity sessions, with the possibility of joining in yourself
  • Accompanying people when travelling to and from their physical activity sessions
  • Being a positive role model and providing positive reinforcement on people’s progress
  • Having regular communication with people to ensure they stay on track
  • Communicating regularly with the project team
  • Carrying out small administrative tasks necessary for the role

As an Exercise Buddy you will NOT be asked to:

  • Instruct or coach physical activity or sports sessions
  • Give medical advice or recommendations
  • Solve personal problems
  • Provide counsel to people
  • Transport people using your own vehicle

Joining the team

To join the team as an Exercise Buddy you need to be a supporter of physical activity and sport with an interest in helping others. You do not need to have any previous experience in a similar role as full training will be provided.

The main qualities we look for are a considerate approach and good interpersonal skills when interacting with people from a variety of different backgrounds.

We also love our volunteers to be:

• Friendly and welcoming with good communication skills

• Reliable, punctual, honest and well organised

• Understanding and sensitive to the needs of others

• Able to act independently but with guidance and support

Marketing and Social Media Volunteer

Help us reach our target audience by playing a key role in promoting Active Herts via social media, our website and working with the project team.

Role Description

Do you have a creative side and want to put it to good use? Would you like to help us reach our target audience through web and social media platforms?

As a Marketing and Social Media volunteer you will play a key role in helping us to reach and inspire individuals to take their first steps to living a more active lifestyle.

The role is flexible and can be based around your availability. You can either be based at our office in Hatfield or from home.

Your role may include any of the following activities:

  • Posting via social media
  • Moderating and updating our Facebook page
  • Regularly updating the Active Herts website
  • Writing occasional press releases
  • Proof reading documents
  • Communicating regularly with team members

To join the team as a Marketing and Social Media volunteer, ideally you will have an interest in physical activity and sport. You will also have some previous experience of marketing techniques, including the use of social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
